Written Thesis
Exposing the Repressed: The Uncanny Horror in Science Fiction Film (MFA Dissertation, SCAD, 2025) investigates how Freud’s concept of the uncanny operates within science fiction and psychological horror cinema. The project argues that these genres expose suppressed cultural anxieties, particularly surrounding technology, memory, and identity. Through case studies of films ranging from German Expressionism to contemporary Hollywood, it examines how repressed fears resurface in cinematic form and shape audience responses. The dissertation bridges psychoanalytic theory, cultural studies, and film analysis, positioning film both as a cultural artifact and as a critical lens for exploring social transformation.
